Here is your handy dandy Downward Plog how to for this weekend. Since there’s a first time for everything we are going develop a syllabus to keep us all on track for the fun that will happen on Sunday afternoon.
There will be a 3 mile route and 5 mile route option for your plog. Plan to bring any running gear you may need, we will supply plastic gloves and bags, a route leader, and a plan. You supply your eagle eyes, the ability to bend over to collect rubbish, and a willing spirit. We reserve the right to add in a 3rd route, either way it will be a happy surprise!
Ragnar, yes that Ragnar, the one the puts on the overnight running parties all over the country will be on hand to add to the fun. This weekend is Ragnar Love-A-Trail Challenge weekend and as part of the celebration Ragnar will help lead the plog. Not only that, there will be prizes- a few Cotopaxi backpacks full of goodies will be up for grabs. We will have some Ragnar peeps out with us to answer any questions you may have about their upcoming events and how to best live your best Ragnar life.
Altra, yes that Altra, the one will the awesome human foot shaped zero drop shoes, they will be out with demo shoes for plogging, a photo backdrop for Instagraming (#DownwardPlog), new shoes for two of you to win and general big, good vibes.
Yogi Emily Bango (@yogibango) and her musician friends Reed and Sean will be out in the courtyard at Navy Yard creating an amazing post-run yoga experience. Emily is a thoughtful and fun instructor who will help you work out some of your kinks and help you find your joy too.
Food is kind of an important piece of any community event and our plan is pretty simple. We will provide a variety of Taylor Gourmet sandwiches (meat and veg options), Ice Cream Jubilee, bubbly water and beer. You can bring anything you would like to add on and share with the group. Think of this as a potluck with a plan!
Wayfarer’s Half Marathon + 10k will be out too with race packets, swag, and patches for everyone who comes out to plog. If you are looking for an early June race this is the one for you. Start and finish at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in beautiful Annapolis, Maryland and did we mention the finish party? It is on fleek.
Quick and Dirty Details
Bring to Downward Plog:
- a yoga mat or beach towel
- running shoes
- clothing you are comfortable running and doing yoga in
- maybe something dry to change into for dinner (maybe not!)
- food to share
Parking is super tricky in and around Navy Yard. There is a 1:35pm Nat’s game so the area will be hopping. Plan to either take the Metro, bike, Uber, or walk from wherever you can luck out with a parking spot. Driving is not recommended.
