Maybe you have heard of plogging, maybe you thought it was blogging spelled or pronounced incorrectly. Plogging is a real thing and we are bringing it to the neighborhood around Pacers Navy Yard on May 6 and are calling it Downward Plog.
The whole idea is to get together for a fun event with a big impact. Plogging is a combination of running and picking up trash, you feel great, get a workout in all while making the neighborhood cleaner for the birds, trees, and all of the people too.
Here is how Downward Plog will work…
Meet up around 4:00 at Pacers Navy Yard. Note, there is a Nat’s home game on the 6th so parking is not your best bet opt for metro, bike or even run over. Pre-plog we will gather for a mindfulness exercise with yogi Emily Bango (@yogibango) and then we will head out for a 3 or 5 mile run- don’t worry we will provide bags and plastic gloves for your plog. What could be better than simply running around cleaning up the world around you? Taking a pair of Altra’s for a test run while doing it. Our race partner Altra will be on site will demo shoes for every plogger.
At 5:30 Emily will lead us in an outdoor yoga class on the grassy area right outside Ice Cream Jubilee in the Navy Yard. Emily is an incredibly positive human and make yoga accessible to the creakiest of runners. The coolest part of this class is not only will Emily help you find your zen she has two real life musicians who will be out playing music while you practice. Outdoor yoga plus live musicians? Yes, it is happening.
Post yoga we will walk back over to Pacers Navy Yard, which will serve as our home base for the whole event, for dinner and hanging out. Bring a snack to share of you want and we will provide a variety of sandwiches from Taylor Gourmet, something for veggie and meat eaters alike and ice cream from Ice Cream Juiblee. We will also have cold beers for those of age and bubbly water for everyone.
Space is limited for Downward Plog. Registration is $20 between now and April 29. On April 30 registration goes up to $30. If there are any remaining spots day of they will go for $35. Give you friends a shout and register today.
One last perk, this event is brought to you by Wayfarer’s Half Marathon + 10k on June 2. If you are participating in Wayfarer’s we will have all of your race swag including your bib and Vooray bag at Navy Yard on May 6. If you want to register to run you can do that on site too.
