Running Your September

Running Your September

Welcome to an action packed September at Pacers Running. There are races, excursions, adventures, fun runs, and miles to be had for every runner. If you are looking to get into a routine, get out of a funk, or see some new sights, we have the run for you. Check out our social run calendar, we offer free runs meeting up at all of our retail locations as well as some spots around town most days of the week. All paces and ability levels are welcome and we all know running with friends, new or old, is so much more fun than going at it alone.

Here are some events you may want to consider when the calendar clicks over to September.

2017 Komen DC Race for the Cure

In the morning on September 9 come out to support the 2017 Komen DC Race for the Cure at Freedom Plaza. The Race for the Cure fundraises for so many reasons one large one being breast cancer knows no boundaries. It affects people of every age, gender, socio-economic status and location. We are all aware of breast cancer, let’s change the story of the countless people affected by it.

Arlington Police, Fire & Safety 9/11 Memorial 5k

Kick your September off by supporting a fantastic local Arlington race. The Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial 5k is on  Saturday September 9 at 6pm and starts at the DoubleTree Hotel, 300 Army Navy Drive, Arlington. This race supports charities who in turn support families of fallen public safety officers and our Armed Services. Race director Sean Bryson shared the story of how the race came to be and what it means to him and the community.

Take your training miles on the road with us to beautiful Annapolis, Maryland for the first official Pacers RUNAWAY. On Saturday September 16 we will have a 3 hour supported run on the B&A Trail followed by an all you can eat crab feast at Cantler’s Riverside Inn. Meet us at the trail at 7am or catch a ride on the Brooks Run Happy Bus leaving Pacers Navy Yard at 6am. We will have everything you need to bag some big mies in Maryland and celebrate the journey with delicious eats at a legit local joint.

MedStar Long Run

If you are training for MCM you are going to want to meet up with MedStar at some point along your journey to the start line. Our own Chris Farley will lead a long run from MedStar’s Sports Center at Lafayette Centre at 7am on Saturday September 16. Keep your eyes peeled for more details about this run but if you are in town and looking for a crew to run around the streets of DC with check out MedStar.

DCXC Invitational Sponsored by New Balance

On Saturday September 23 the largest cross country race in all of the land takes place in DC’s Kenilworth Park. Over 3,000 student athletes will run the trails against their friends and fellow athletes. The race is supported by Pacers Running, New Balance, RunWashington, DCSAA, and Kenilworth Park. If you are a high school cross country runner or parent check with you coach, DCXC is going to be huge!

Clarendon Day Run

Sunday September 24 come out to Clarendon to pick up some new hardware.  The Clarendon Day Run offers all sorts of options, there is a 5k, 10k, or the Double. All distances  have a serious downhill start- Wilson Blvd is no joke! The best part is you don’t have to run back up, you can just stroll to our post race after party at Whitlow’s on Wilson and Ireland’s Four Courts. Have little runners? They can join you in the 5k or our Kids Dash. Just like Clarendon itself this race has something for everyone.

Run! Greek! Run!

Also on September 24 our friends in Alexandria put on the Run! Geek! Run! 5k starting at 8:30am. All proceeds from Run! Geek! Run! will go directly to support the Alexandria Firefighters Helping Hands Relief Foundation. The Helping Hands Relief Foundation was developed to assist the members of the Alexandria Firefighters in the event of an unforeseen catastrophic event. It’s a great event supporting a great cause.

Running is huge in September and we are looking forward to seeing you out there. Don’t forget to come in to your neighborhood Pacers Running to stock up on all of the gear you need for the running you are doing.
